| Against the Grain is
a slice-of-life comic
book that
chronicles a group of friends
as they navigate their teen years together; that exciting,
frightening time between youth and adulthood when everything
matters, but dreams can overcome all. Issues one
and two were
published in the direct-order comics market in the late
1990s under my banner, Sterling Graphics. I'm
told the book did pretty well for a first attempt by an
unknown artist. Nonetheless, the sales numbers weren't
high enough to keep the project going, and I eventually
set pen and paper aside to pursue other creative outlets. Now almost ten years later, I find
the chronicles of Greenfield High School are still brewing
and simmering deep down inside, just as they were ten years
before the first issue hit the shelves. So after some soul-searching
and encouragement from friends and fans alike, I've decided
to continue the story here on this site—for free.
I will only post teasers from the
first two books out of respect for those who bought
them off the shelf (that's why the online version starts
with #3). If you want to buy them as well, see
the online order form.
